Nicholas Onie is Head of Australia and NZ Private Equity and a Managing Director in Ares Management's Private Equity Group in Sydney, having been promoted into this leadership role in early 2026 after joining Ares from Bain Capital in 2025. He is leading Ares' private equity debut in Australia, including its first local deal, a majority stake in Redback Boots, a Sydney-founded work-footwear producer, expected to close in Q1 2026. He previously spent nearly nine years at Bain Capital Private Equity in Australia and the United States, where he was promoted to Principal, focusing on originating and executing private equity transactions and managing portfolio companies. Before Bain Capital, he worked in the investment banking divisions of Goldman Sachs and Lazard. He holds an MBA with Honors from The Wharton School and a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Sydney.
