Max Levchin is Founder and General Partner at SciFi VC, his personal venture capital firm co-run with his wife Nellie Levchin (Partner), alongside Partners Brooks Hosfield (operations) and Matt Therian (finance & operations). SciFi VC began as the investment arm of Max's startup studio HVF and focuses on early-stage companies whose defensibility comes from hard technical feats, network effects, and complex highly regulated industries — the intersection of frontier science and financial engineering. The fund has made 72+ investments with 9 exits, most recently Folio (Series A, July 2025) and exit Ganymede (January 2026). Notable portfolio companies include Brex, Loft, Anchorage, Synthego, Zymergen, Black Ore Technologies, and X1. Max is simultaneously Chairman and CEO of Affirm Holdings (NASDAQ: AFRM), a BNPL fintech he founded in 2012 which has grown to a $20B+ market cap. He also serves as Executive Chairman of Upward Labs Holdings, Investment Partner at Nyca Partners, Director of The Coca-Cola Company (appointed October 2025), and board member of Mixpanel and the San Francisco Symphony. Prior to Affirm, he co-founded PayPal (acquired by eBay for $1.5B in 2002), founded social platform Slide (acquired by Google for $182M), and was VP Engineering at Google. He holds a BS in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
