David Shaughnessy is a Principal on the Bain Capital Tech Opportunities team in Boston. He focuses on growth investments in vertical and horizontal software—particularly SMB software, data services and fintech—typically participating in rounds within the $100K–$5.0M range from Bain’s tech-focused growth vehicle. His work centers on backing capital-efficient, vertically specialized SaaS and data platforms, and he has been involved in deals such as Ren and other vertical software companies. Before joining Bain Capital in 2018, he spent four years at Goldman Sachs in New York and San Francisco, working first in investment banking and then on the Growth Equity team, and he holds an economics degree with a finance concentration from Duke University.
