Claire Leurent is Managing Director at AbbVie Ventures, the corporate venture arm of AbbVie, where she leads strategic life sciences investing from the Cambridge, Massachusetts area, joining in January 2024. As a venture investor she focuses on biotech and pharmaceutical opportunities including oncology, immunology, neuroscience, eye care, obesity, and aesthetics, and typically invests from seed through later private rounds with check sizes in the $100K to $5.0M range. Her sector lens spans biotech, health economics, connected health and digital health, and she has experience deploying capital across stages from seed to IPO, PIPE and SPAC transactions. Previously she spent eight months as an Entrepreneur in Residence at the NIH's Seed programme (2023), was Principal, Venture Investments at Johnson & Johnson Innovation – JJDC (2019-2023), Managing Director/Bio Sector Investment Director at Samsung Ventures America, and had 14 years of drug development experience at Forenap Pharma, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, and Pfizer. She serves as a board observer at several portfolio companies and teaches Strategy in Action at Northeastern's D'Amore-McKim School of Business. She holds a PhD in molecular and cellular biology from the University of Strasbourg and an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management.
