Rhett Smith is Vice President of Operations at The Engine (Engine Ventures), a Boston-based fund and accelerator focused on “tough tech” companies. His investing activity there centers on seed and Series A rounds with check sizes typically between $250K and $9.0M, backing startups in agtech, energy and climate, industrial IoT, semiconductors, biotech, AI and health IT. Smith focuses on capital-intensive companies built around scientific breakthroughs, helping them bridge from lab to market with both funding and operational support. In addition to investment responsibilities, he plays a key role in building The Engine’s platform and operational capabilities to support deep-tech founders across the Boston and New England ecosystem.
