Danielle C. Tarraf is a Senior Principal at Flagship Pioneering, where she originates and builds new companies leveraging artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, and she is also listed as Managing Director at JCI Ventures. She invests primarily in AI, deep tech, and generative AI from Seed through Series B, typically writing checks in the $1M–$5M range with a sweet spot around $2M. Her background spans venture investing, McKinsey (where she co-led GenAI for private investors in North America), and a prior career at RAND Corporation leading AI and autonomy strategy studies for the U.S. Department of Defense. Earlier, she was an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at Johns Hopkins University, after postdoctoral work at Caltech, and holds an SM and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from MIT focused on control theory.
